How It All Began
Hiii, I'm Melissa and it means a lot to be able to share my journey with you as the founder of Salted Sun. I'm a single mama, who became a parent at the young age of 18. While it wasn’t always easy raising a child alone at such a young age, I know deep in my heart that my experiences have shaped me into the resilient woman I am today and I wouldn't change a thing about our little family. My son inspires me to show him that dreams aren’t just for the lucky; they are for those who dare to chase them, regardless of their circumstances. My hope is to inspire other women facing challenges to dream big and embrace their own power. We CAN dream big and build big while also being incredible mothers.
How Salted Sun Was Born
At the beginning of this year I felt stuck with where my career was headed. I was afraid to chase my dreams, but I also knew I wanted more for myself. For many years I dreamt of being a business owner, and specifically would day dream about creating my own jewelry boutique. I will never forget the day I just woke up and asked myself what I had to lose... and so decided to go for it. I had this nagging voice in my head telling me "if you don't start this today, you never will." And I also realized that I would rather fail trying than never try at all. So, at the beginning of 2024, I decided to just start. One foot in front of the other. And yes- it was terrifying and challenging, but it was also so so exciting and gave me so much hope for the future. It filled my cup and gave me a new purpose and that felt really good.
Why The Name Salted Sun?
The name was inspired by two of my favorite places that have deeply influenced me in my life. The quiet rugged desert landscapes of Joshua Tree and the vibrant coastal shores of San Diego. Both have been home to me for long periods of time and hold a sacred piece of who I am. The desert is a quiet, mysterious, and grounding place while san Diego is loud, full of adventures, and makes me feel alive. Plus, I just think it sounds like a fun eccentric and warm name.
What Does Salted Sun Stand For?
At its core, I want Salted Sun to stand for empowerment, authenticity, and resilience. I prioritize ethically sourced materials, ensuring that every piece of jewelry embodies not only beauty but also integrity. Our Jewelry primarily features gold-filled and hypoallergenic pieces that are crafted to be durable and accessible- I believe every woman deserves to wear quality jewelry without breaking the bank.
My hope is that Salted Sun won't just be about selling jewelry, but a part of a larger community where women can feel uplifted and inspired. As you wear pieces from Salted Sun, I hope that you feel a sense of confidence and self-love.
I want nothing more than to be able to eventually give back to pregnant teens, single mothers, victims of DV, and children and families that are experiencing substantial loss. It tugs on my heart to help others and I hope Salted Sun can be a catalyst for that.
